As part of Tarafo Bay’s long-term commitment to enhancing leisure experiences across Boa Vista, we are proud to lead the next evolution of Toca da Garoupa, one of the island’s most recognised and well-loved beachfront venues. A place where locals and visitors have gathered for years to enjoy the ocean breeze, coastal views and relaxed island rhythm, Toca da Garoupa now enters an exciting new chapter under our stewardship.

A Reimagined Beach Bar Experience

While the bar remains rooted in the authentic spirit of Cape Verde, significant enhancements are underway to elevate the overall guest experience. We are introducing a renewed design, improved comfort and a refined hospitality standard, all carefully aligned with the natural surroundings and existing character of the location.

Guests will notice an immediate uplift in atmosphere and service, whether visiting for a casual afternoon by the sea or a vibrant afternoon in the sun.

Aligned with the Tarafo Bay Vision

The acquisition of Toca da Garoupa represents a key milestone in our strategic growth across Boa Vista. As a flagship property within the Tarafo Bay portfolio, the venue reflects our core values: elevated simplicity, design excellence, and memorable beachfront experiences.

Leadership Driven by Experience

The redevelopment is being led by a team of experts, including Jon Hunt from the International Design Group and Fiona McVeigh, whose experience of running Toca da Garoupa and deep affinity for the island culture make her well-suited to guide this transformation successfully.

“Our objective is to respect the heritage and long-standing appeal of Toca da Garoupa, while implementing thoughtful improvements that enhance quality, consistency and guest satisfaction, setting a new standard for beach bars in Boa Vista” says Tim Strawson, Owner & Founder, Tarafo Bay.

Key enhancements to be delivered include:

  • A refreshed menu inspired by local produce and bold flavours
  • Modernised facilities designed with comfort and functionality in mind
  • A continued focus on the warm, welcoming service guests have always enjoyed

Honouring a Legacy

What will remain unchanged is the essence at the heart of Toca da Garoupa;  the informal beachfront atmosphere, the unmistakable island charm, and the community spirit that has made it a destination for generations.

Welcoming Guests Through the Transition

The fully revitalised Toca da Garoupa is scheduled to reopen in 2026, with refurbishment starting early in the new year. In the meantime, the venue will remain open for a period of time, providing daytime service, including drinks and light dining.
