Tarafo Bay has officially appointed NATURA Architects, the Prague based award-winning design company to lead the design and development of the resort’s interiors. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the creation of a world-class sustainable destination that blends contemporary luxury with the natural beauty of Boa Vista, Cape Verde.
Scheduled to open Christmas 2027, Phase one of Tarafo Bay will feature a collection of luxury private villas, branded apartments, beach front cabanas, an 18-hole championship golf course, fine dining venues, wellness facilities, and curated lifestyle spaces. With NATURA’s expertise in creating immersive and elegant environments that revolve around sustainability, the resort is set to redefine coastal hospitality and deliver an unparalleled guest experience.
The partnership between Tarafo Bay and NATURA Architects underscores a shared vision: to craft interiors that are both sophisticated and authentic, whilst positively contributing to the protection of our planet, creating sustainable environments and drawing inspiration from the region’s culture, heritage, and natural surroundings.
Tim Strawson, Founder of Tarafo Bay comments “We are delighted to have NATURA Architects on board as our design partner. Their ability to combine modern elegance with sustainability make them the perfect fit for Tarafo Bay. Together, we are creating a resort that is not only visually breathtaking but also deeply connected to the heart of the destination.”
Sustainability at Tarafo Bay’s core
Tarafo Bay is setting a new standard for sustainable resorts as one of the world’s first fully self-sufficient energy & water destinations. The resort’s photovoltaic farm will generate its electricity, ensuring a reliable and cost-effective power supply. Alongside, a state-of-the-art desalination facility will provide a sustainable freshwater source for all operations. Any surplus energy and fresh water will be shared with the local community, supporting Cape Verde’s broader sustainability goals.
Tarafo Bay’s waste management system will be equally forward-thinking, designed to minimise waste and maximise recycling.
Buildings and landscapes will be carefully designed to leverage local materials, expertise, and craftsmanship wherever possible, reducing carbon emissions associated with imported goods and celebrating the unique character of Boa Vista.
Sean Clifton, Founder of NATURA Architects comments “It is a privilege to join Tim and his inspiring team as interior designers and architects for this beautiful new hotel & resort on Boa Vista. Our experience and passion for sustainable hotel design and respect for local communities will enable us to craft a resort that breathes with the island – where guests may slow into nature’s rhythm, immerse in local culture, and find both restoration and wonder. The hotel will distil a local sense of place, set new benchmarks for contemporary hospitality experience, whilst regenerating nature and supporting the islands’ people, communities, and unique ecosystems.”
