Tarafo Bay Resort has recently secured all the necessary environmental impact approvals for the launch phase hotel and golf course from the Ministry of Agriculture and the Environment in Praia, Cape Verde.

In close collaboration with respected local environmentalist, Margarida Santos, Tarafo Bay’s team worked diligently to ensure that the impact of the project on local flora and fauna during construction and operation will be minimised through careful design and management.

Jon Hunt of IDG, who is the project’s Design Director, overall masterplanner, and Golf Architect commented: “The natural beauty of the site and presence of precious fauna, such as the annual turtle migration, meant we had to give very careful consideration to design. We’ve kept earth movement to a minimum, we’re recycling all waste materials and we’re using low-level lighting within the resort. Perhaps most importantly, we’re using desalinated water produced by our own PV energy systems for a carbon neutral operation”.
